Should You Cover Your Pool Even in South Florida?

- Pool Safety,
Even though winter isn’t as cold in Florida as it is in more northern states, pool owners in South Florida should still use a cover when the pool is not in use. Read on to learn how a pool cover can lower your pool maintenance costs and save you hassle in the long run.
Reduced Evaporation
In southern parts of Florida like Palm Beach County, the average pool loses up to 0.25 inches of water each day from evaporation. This problem may solve itself if your area gets plenty of rain. If it doesn’t, however, you’ll need to refill the pool yourself. Your water bill will go up. You’ll also lose money if the pool pump starts sucking up air and becomes damaged. By using a pool cover, you can help keep your water bill down.
Less Maintenance
A pool cover is especially important during winter or other long periods when you’re not using the pool. It helps keep out dirt, leaves, and other debris. Large clumps of debris can cause flow blockages that you’ll need to fix yourself or pay someone to come repair.
Another consideration is the amount of chlorine in the pool. Ultraviolet rays degrade chlorine over time, which means you’ll need to top off the chemical levels more often in an uncovered pool.
The Downsides Are Manageable
One of the main complaints about pool covers is the appearance. They aren’t always pretty. However, you can find one in a nice color if you shop around. Don’t want to roll and unroll the cover each time you go for a swim? Consider getting a motorized pool cover. Depending on the layout of your pool, you could even have a covered pit installed to hide the cover roller.
Investing in a pool cover is worth it. It will save you time and money in the long run. If you have any questions about your South Florida pool or want to schedule pool service or repairs, contact All Florida Pool & Spa Service at 305-893-4036.
